Here’s Colin Millers Snow report from March 20th
For the past few years I have wanted to do some mountain touring, I even bought myself some posh skis and boots, but never quite got out to actually use them until last week. Pete was good enough to organise a trip, there was snow and I had a pass out. I’ve often looked up at the Buck when I’m in the Clash car park and thought it would be great to ski up it. Now my opportunity had come. Continue reading

Temperature plus 5, calm, dry. Based on the Short Cut/Leids Leap circuit, there has been no loss of snow since those trails were pisted on 14th March. Trails are fast and compacted, tramlines almost icy. Snow depth off-piste now 70cm, therefore the natural snowpack has reduced by 3-5cm/day over the past 3 days. There is a short (50m.) break in the trail near the main entrance, but no sign of any thinning elsewhere on the loop. Judging by the forecast, conditions will change over Wednesday and Thursday.

87 Skiable days in the Clash this season. Will we make 100?
On the trails, the depth of the layer of soft snow on top of the compacted snowpack is 5cm on shadowed sections and 10-15cm on the sunny bits. Tramlines are glazed and good to ski. Off-piste there are varying grades of yoghurt. The off-piste level snow depth near foot of Short Cut is 80-85cm (down about 10cm from last weekend). Apart from the short thin section near the main entrance, everything still looks good.

The British Nordic Development Squad will be collecting TESCO school and club vouchers again this year.
They have been available since the beginning of March.
Last year we collected about 30,000 and bought hurdles, shot putts and yoga mats with them. I’m not sure what is on Roy’s wish list this year.
Please leave vouchers at the ski centre or give them to Eileen
Thanks to Taywood for this viedo on U-Tube. There are some different strides to try out here that are more aimed at touring rather than racing. The guy doing the demo runs outyourbackdoor.com with a variety of back country, bike an kayak info

This week was the Huntly Nordic Ski Club Open Championships and finally the weather gods were smiling on us. There was sun, there was snow (not too much), somebody had cleared the car park and Rick and Pete had done the pisteing . I hitched a lift with Ian Cooper and his son James up to the Clash from the Centre – Thanks Ian. Continue reading
