Sunday Morning Kids Club Update

The first Sunday morning children’s club has held at the ski centre yesterday (2nd September). We were delighted to see 19 children join the group this week!  The weather was perfect and there were plenty of ice creams sold at the end of the session.

Thanks very much to Stuart Gray for providing some desperately needed help looking after all those children. Also thanks to Milly from the Ski Centre assisting in kit issue and clean-up.

The next weekend is 16th September, and we may well see even more members, so any extra helpers from the club would be welcomed.

Huntly Hairst 2012

The rollerski exhibition at this year’s Hairst was blessed with dry conditions and reasonable weather. Some of the younger club skiers did two skate skier cross demonstrations in the square outsitde the Gordon Arms. This was followed by an open ski for visitors to have a go at roller skiing. The whole event was a big success, thanks to Alex Standen for organizing it an everybody who turned out as skiers, helpers or coaches.

Scottish Rollerski Championships 2012

Sunday saw the Scottish rollerski championship race, held on the Cairngorm ski road over various distances and run by CBNSC. Yet again the weather was kind to all who competed with clear skies and sunny conditions prevailing, creating good if perhaps a little hot, racing conditions.

By the end of the day, Huntly skiers had achieved considerable success and all those who took part skied with a determination and effort that they should be proud of!

The club now has the following Scottish rollerski champions amongst its ranks:

  • Scottish under 16 Boys Champion; Duncan Gibb
  • Scottish under 14 Boys Champion; Fergus Newman
  • Scottish under 14 Girls Champion; Lynne Gray
  • Scottish under 12 Boys Champion; Callum Cooper

Sorry about the photo Duncan, we didn’t have anything newer.

What’s Roy Up To?

Club member Roy Young  is one of the UK Nordic Ski Team Coaches. There’s no snow around so surely Roy has his feet up… Not really! Here’s what he’s thinking about at the moment:

Last Monday we were doing lactate testing in Stirling with the oversized treadmill – so getting results while doing classic rollering.  Really interesting – but also good to get a chance to stand next to the guys as we working on ski efficiency – so you could make modifications and try them out there and then.

This morning was speed work with Alex and Youngy in the winter conditions down at the ski centre (winter jacket, hat and gloves while giving video feed back).  Later on its going over training with some of the guys. Continue reading

Huntly Sprints 2012

The rain mostly held off for this year’s sprints and there was a good turn out with 60 entrants from as far afield as Cornwall.

Click on the picture below for some pictures of the event. Further pictures will be put up over the week as they come back from the lab.
