Tour de Ski Round Up

congratulations to Andrew Musgrave who finished his second Tour de Ski by finishing 52nd after the final 9km hill climb stage yesterday. This is the same place as he finished last year but I suspect in percentage terms he has improved a lot, especially after his 11th place in the Sprints. There were 7 stages this year compared to 9 last year.

Also congratulations to Andrew Young for taking part in his first Tour. He only planned to complete the first two stages in preparation for the World Juniors later this month. He looks on form.

And finally congratulations to Roy Young for masterminding another successful foray into international competition for British skiers.

Muzzy Takes 11th in Tour Sprint

Andrew Musgrave took 11th place in the Tour de Ski sprint final today, an outstanding achievement. Huntly skier Andrew Young did not such a good day after taking a fall earlier in the day. Fiona Hughes is also skiing for the UK in this year’s tour. The event was won by Norway’s Finn Haagen Krogh, with Kikkan Randall from the USA taking the women’s title.

Best wishes to all our guys for the rest of the event.

Meanwhile at Bruksvallarna Posy Musgrave took 60th place in in the 10km Ladies Classic and Sarah Young came in just behind in 65th place. Stuart Gray, Gregor Young and Alex Standen are also out in in Bruckvallarna.

On another note, there is a beautiful film on the NRK website about Anders Fortun, the man who  pistes the Norwegian traing area in Sognefell in June. If you don’t know any Norwegian just sit back and enjoy the delightful snowy scenes in the mountains

Musgraves Start Push For World Domination

At the 5km F FIS race at Ylitornio in Finland at the weekend Posy Musgrave broke the magic 120 FIS pts barrier (119.47 pts) to earn herself World Cup qualifier. In the same race just 3secs behind Posy was Sarah Young which was a tantalising 2 secs outside a World Cup qualification standard (122.65 pts). Better luck next time Sarah! It’s great to see our first Women’s world cup start.

Meanwhile Andrew Young won the 1st stage (10km C) of the Junior Tour de Barents today. He beat Finn Hagen Krogh of Norway into 2nd place. Finn won gold & bronze at the World Juniors in January. Andrew will be wearing the red leaders bib in tomorrows 15km F.

More World Cup Starts

Following the last post about Alex Standen getting into the World Cup rankings we have more good news – Callum Smith has broken that barrier at a race in Pello, Finland.

Congratulations to Simon Platt of Lakeland Club who is also joining this group.

These Finnish races also saw PJ Barron & William Newman score their best ever FIS points & Sarah Young continue with her challenge of obtaining World Cup qualification

Andrews Compete in Dusseldorf

Club members Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young are continued their world cup campaigns this weekend in the sprint races at Dusseldorf.

They both competed in the Sprint qualification races on 20th December. Andrew Newell qualified first with covering the 1.5km route in 3:03.77. Andrew Musgrave took 68th place 19.99 seconds slower and Andrew Young took 70th place 20.63 seconds slower. This leaves them both just over 10% off the fastest qualifier. Continue reading
