The first Nordic Ski Race officials course to be run in the UK in 17 years was held at Huntly On the 2nd and 3rd May 2009. The course was presented by Jim Davidson one of only two FIS qualified Technical Delegates in the UK and run under the banner of Snowsport Scotland.

Yagi Gains World Cup Place at Tornio
Only three years ago it seemed like it was a nigh on impossible dream that the UK would have a nordic skier who was skiing at world cup level. Well things have changed a lot recently with club member Alex Standen joining that elite group which now contains three club members.

Huntly Nordic Ski Club in collaboration with Snowsport Scotland will be hosting a Cross Country Ski Officials Training course on May 2-3 2009. The course take place at Huntly Nordic Ski Centre and the Clashindarroch forest and will be run by one of the two UK FIS accredited race officials, Jim Davidson.

Quiet Revolution in Ski Jumping
In this post feminist age it’s interesting to note that women’s sporting horizons expanded this week with he worlds first World Cup ski jumping competition for women, in Liberec, Czech Republic.
Gold was taken by Lyndsey Van of the USA jumping 97.5m (243pts), Silver by Ulrike Grasessler (Germany) 93m/239 pts and Anette Sagen (Norway), 94m (238pts)
2019 Update….In the end Women’s Ski Jumping made it into 2014 Sochi Olypics. The first Olympic champion was Carina Vogt.
Ski Centre and Squad Appear on Countryfile
In case you missed it, there was an article on nordic skiiing on the BBC magazine programme Countryfile this weekend. It featured a presenter learning how to cross county ski with Sandy Thorn and interviews with club members, Roy Young, Callum Smith and Andrew Young. The article was filmed last weekend at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre.

Snowsport England Snow Skills Week
Snowsport England have announced their on snow nordic skills and multi activity week. It will be held in Kvitavan, Norway 28th March 2009- 4th April 2009.
The instructors are a line up of Andy Stewart, Mixe Dixon and Patrick Winterton.

Torsby Tunnel Under Threat
It seems even in ski mad Sweden cross country ski facilities can have problems. NRK reports the Torsby ski tunnel is threatened with closure following a 1.3m Kr loss.
