News about Huntly Nordic Ski Club

Winter events Season 24/25

Winter is finally here and hopefully a few of you have made the most of the early snow. Some dates to look forward to below. As always our races dates are driven by conditions and we will keep the website calendar and Facebook updated with any changes.

Christmas Quiz

Our first event will be the annual Christmas Quiz. The quiz will be held on Thursday 19th December at HNOC. Start time will be 1930. Teams will be made up on the night.

Banchory Rollerski sessions

Working with SnowsportScotland, we are piloting some activity in the Banchory area, because we know we have quite a few members in that area. To start with, there will be monthly Saturday morning rollerski sessions led by a coach at Knockburn Loch. Initially sessions will be for people of any age with some rollerski experience, but if there is interest in beginner sessions then that will be considered in the future. Rollerski equipment can be provided, but must be requested in advance of the sessions.

Participants to arrive for 0930 with sessions running 0945 – 1115.

Dates:

  • Sat 21 Dec 2024
  • Sat 18 Jan 2025
  • Sat 15 Feb 2025
  • Sat 15 March 2025

Clashindarroch

We have our usual Clashindarroch events planned and hopefully some snow will come to allow these to go ahead.

Thursday 02 January – Ski-O
Sunday 19 January – FIS World Snow Day
Sunday 02 February – Clash Dash
Sunday 23 February – Huntly Champs
Sunday 02 March – Back-up Race Date.

Thankyou to all the participants for coming and taking part, we hope you had a great two days of racing. Also a big thankyou to all the volunteers who helped at both events, without your help and support we couldn’t run the races.

HNSC Provisional Winter Calendar

Our provisional winter calendar can be found here Items in red or highlighted need to be finalised. This version is as of 25/10/19. I still need dates for the British champs in Ruhpolding and the date for the End of Season Mountain Tour will be weather dependent – here’s hoping it ends up being late in April

Lecht Winter Games

This season  snow factory technology will be trialled at several downhill centres this winter (Lecht, Glencoe, Cairngorm). BSS & SSS are involved with the Lecht trial where ~500m of x/c trail will be put in place. The flier from BSS gives an idea of what is going on. The club will be involved in the cross-country element of the project & organising things over the weekend 17/18 Feb 2018

Clash Dash Results

The results from Sunday 15th January 17’s Clash Dash Sprints are below, the first race organised by your new Events Team of Fiona Stewart, Steve Young & Graeme Gibb. They coped very well on dreich day with rapidly deteriorating snow conditions.

Thanks are due to Steve Young for grooming the race circuit. Colin Miller for some strategic snow-shovelling. Eileen Young, Claire Newman & Elizabeth Massie for corralling the juniors to the start line. Frank Musgrave & Neil Duncan for manning the lonely course turn-around marker. And a big thanks to Calum Cruickshank & Alan Telford for going back to the Ski Centre to pick up the club skate skis

Well done to all the competitors for providing everyone (especially Pete) with so much entertainment and photo opportunities on The Fingers.

There are photos & videos on the club Facebook page.

Primary Schools’ Rollerski and Cross County Ski Racing

Eight schools competed in the first Primary Schools’ Rollerski and Cross County Ski racing on Saturday 26th November 2016 at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre.

There were some hard fought battles and fantastic skiing by everyone who took part, many of whom were competing in their first ever ski races.

Hearty congratulations to all skiers. Thank you to all the helpers who made the event a great success.
