Vattenfall, sponsors of the Swedish cross country ski team, have donated £1000 to the club to sponsor this summer’s rollerski events.
Below – Posy Musgrave accepts on behalf of Huntly Nordic SC a cheque for £1000 from David Rodger of Vattenfall. This welcome sponsorship from Vattenfall will be used to support the three Huntly rollerski races this summer along with the British Rollerski Series

This winter has been a bit of a disaster area as far as ski events have gone. Hopefully the summer will be better.

This weekend’s races are cancelled because there is no snow currently.
The forecasters are talking about some snow so fingers crossed for the weekend.
Andrew Musgrave has been having an oustanding week at the Norwegian championships, on Thursday he came in second place against a field of Norway’s best skiers including Peter Northug. This has caused considerable consternation and soul searching in the Norwegian press. Read more about this at the BNDS website. Apparently BBC sport were not interested in this story although they were aware of it!
On Saturday Andrew continued his excellent form with a 5th place in the Norwegian Championships 30km Skiathlon. Lying 21st after the classic leg he skied the 3rd fastest skate time to pull back to 5th overall.

Conditions today were much improved. The lower trails were thin with wet snow 2-5cms deep, but most main trails were skiable with care on old skis. Upper trails were better with 5-10cms of sticky snow. Leids leap was skiable with care, I broke through to the rocks in a couple of places though. We skiied a full Haute Route, out via Norman’s Way, up Herring bone Hill and back down Leids Leap, Deer Track, and Classic Start. Temperature at car park was ~2C and along the Haute route it was just above freezing. We had a mix of sunshine and snow showers.

Today conditions were very variable, with altitude being the main factor. The lower trails had many bare patches, and thin cover (1-5cm) in places, but becoming slushy. Highland Fling was in good shape with 5cm throughout. On parts of the Haute Route, depths were up to 8cm, with a fresh dusting from a heavy snow shower this afternoon. However, Leids Leap was bare from the top down to the Hedder Wye junction.Temperature at car park at 2.30pm was plus 3. For Sunday, with more precipitation expected, it’s going to be a question of “wait and see” as everything depends on the freezing
The event had a big turnout with 38 skiers taking part from family groups to hot shot youngsters. While some skiers sped around others took a more leisurely approach but hopefully all enjoyed the day. The snow conditions just about held out & the trails are now discontinuous.
It has to be said that the trails are now broken, but there were still long stretches of skiable snow today — somewhat soggy in places, and not currently the place for one’s best gear. Some snow will undoubtedly survive overnight. Car park was very icy this morning and may be likewise on Sunday.

Apart from a few short, thin bits it looks like the snow at Clashindarroch should survive through Saturday, assisted by further compaction today on the main trails (thanks, Peter!). Temperature rose above freezing but not drastically so.

Thursday saw Clashindarroch’s deepest snowpack this season, with 10cm wet snow on the lower trails and up to 25cm heavy powder on the Haute Route. Unfortunately the snow was melting from the ground up although frost is forecast for Thursday night. Some trails have been compacted and some others have been “skied in”.
