Eric Anderson of ABR Trails , Ironwood, Michigan recently pubished a review article in Cross Country Skier Magazine surveying the range of of snowmobiles for grooming ski trails. As the club is thinking about replacing the snowmobile I read the article with great interest. The article alluded to a grooming DVD so my interest was piqued.

Quiet Revolution in Ski Jumping
In this post feminist age it’s interesting to note that women’s sporting horizons expanded this week with he worlds first World Cup ski jumping competition for women, in Liberec, Czech Republic.
Gold was taken by Lyndsey Van of the USA jumping 97.5m (243pts), Silver by Ulrike Grasessler (Germany) 93m/239 pts and Anette Sagen (Norway), 94m (238pts)
2019 Update….In the end Women’s Ski Jumping made it into 2014 Sochi Olypics. The first Olympic champion was Carina Vogt.
Ski Centre and Squad Appear on Countryfile
In case you missed it, there was an article on nordic skiiing on the BBC magazine programme Countryfile this weekend. It featured a presenter learning how to cross county ski with Sandy Thorn and interviews with club members, Roy Young, Callum Smith and Andrew Young. The article was filmed last weekend at Huntly Nordic and Outdoor Centre.

Andrews Compete in Dusseldorf
Club members Andrew Musgrave and Andrew Young are continued their world cup campaigns this weekend in the sprint races at Dusseldorf.
They both competed in the Sprint qualification races on 20th December. Andrew Newell qualified first with covering the 1.5km route in 3:03.77. Andrew Musgrave took 68th place 19.99 seconds slower and Andrew Young took 70th place 20.63 seconds slower. This leaves them both just over 10% off the fastest qualifier. Continue reading
Snowsport England Snow Skills Week
Snowsport England have announced their on snow nordic skills and multi activity week. It will be held in Kvitavan, Norway 28th March 2009- 4th April 2009.
The instructors are a line up of Andy Stewart, Mixe Dixon and Patrick Winterton.

Andrews Compete At Davos
Andrew Young And Andrew Musgrave entered the World Cup 15km Classic event at Davos this weekend. There were 83 entrants and the race was won by Johan Olsson of Sweden in 40:10. Andrew Young came in at 77th place 6:34 off the pace. Andrew Musgrave 68th place 4:23 off Olsson’s pace.

Torsby Tunnel Under Threat
It seems even in ski mad Sweden cross country ski facilities can have problems. NRK reports the Torsby ski tunnel is threatened with closure following a 1.3m Kr loss.
